A Day of Remembrance

Graves_at_Arlington_on_Memorial_DayLis here – The Chicklets wish you and yours all the best on this Memorial Day. We appreciate the greatest sacrifice made by our fallen service men and women to keep our country safe and free!

It’s a long-held tradition in my family to cook out on this day. It began with my grandparents and has continued on even though they’re now gone. My grandfather was a Chief Petty Office on the U.S.S. Enterprise during WWII – his grandfather fought for the Union during the Civil War.  My father-in-law was a Carbine Sharpshooter and Lineman 1st Class in the Army during WWII, my step-father and uncle both served in the Navy during the Vietnam War, and two of my cousins joined the National Guard after 9/11. One served in Iraq and we’re very thankful he came home.

We’ll be grilling cheeseburgers and brats with sides of fresh corn on the cob and cheesy potatoes – my family’s favorites. Do you have any traditions or special plans for the holiday?
