In one of Miss Abigail’s Did You Know This? installments, she told us how to quickly peel a clove of garlic. That was good, but a friend posted this on facebook and wow was it amazing! Check this out:

How cool was that?!

Some of you may be doubting the video. Let me tell you this… I have tried it, and it works!
I was making a beef stew for a group of 25 or so, and part of the recipe called for garlic… and since I was making so much stew, I decided to use an entire bulb of garlic. Simply break apart the cloves, throw them all into a closeable container (in my case, it happened to be a drink dispenser like you would use to pour lemonade or something), and shake the living @$#@ out of it. Worked like a charm, much to the amazement of those around me observing what I was doing.
Excellent, Jon! I wondered if you could use any container or if it had to be metal bowls. Thanks for answering my question before I even asked it!
Oh yeah… no problem. There is no weird effect from it being a metal bowl or anything like that… it is simply the repeated bashing of the cloves against each other and against the sides of the container that causes the peels to come off.
Now I can go back to using fresh garlic rather than buying the jars of minced. I hated dealing with the peeling.
